Finding the right sculptor

How to find the right sculptor for your personal or organisation’s needs
The commissioning of a sculpture arises from a desire to express something important in a tangible way. Sculpture usually is tactile and this facilitates the expression of values and ideas in a meaningful way. A sculptor needs to have a sensitivity towards this.
The client may be inspired by the sculptors’ work and/or the capacity by the sculptor to create a work appropriate for the site/ situation. This sets up a process through dialogue.
This process is as sensitive and important as any transition. There is usually an underlying or overt personal or emotional engagement with the making of a commission to which the sculptor needs to be sensitive. Not all sculptors can work on a commission.
Just as many other rites of passage involve a midwife, celebrant or business manager, the role of the artist is to provide this function as well as create the artistic product. Finding the right person to make you sculpture is important and this process should lead you to feel personally connected with the finished work.
